When shipping a puppy, we make all
the travel arrangements. This schedule is emailed to you with information on picking up
your pup. The puppies are shipped to your nearest major airport that we can ship into.
You do have to go to the airport to pickup. (Beware if someone tells you it is delivered
to your home it probably is a scam)
We primarily use Northwest Airlines to ship
the puppies since this is one of our only options here in South Dakota. The puppies are
shipped in an airline-approved crate with food, water and documents that can be used for
training and traveling with the puppy. This crate is yours to keep.
The airline
ships using same-day shipping that is safe and secure for the puppies. NWA offers regular
live animals shipping & priority (VIP) shipping. All the puppies travel in the same
confined area, that is pressurized and at the same temperature and has the same air filtered
in as the passengers.
The difference is VIP can ship 7 days a week, often at odd hours or making quicker
connections. With regular shipping we can only ship Mon-Fri Leaving between 5 Am to 1 PM.
When sent priority VIP, your puppy doesn't have as much "sitting
around" time while waiting for processing. They are guaranteed to be taken
immediately off the plane with no long holding periods before, during or after the flight.
They are hand delivered to the counter. Having shipped puppies for 20 years, we have never had a negative incident. We have purchased puppies for our own use and had them shipped in, and were always very pleased with the condition of the puppies and the attention they received while in the care of the airlines. With regular shipping they have a lay over in MSP of 2-3 hours before continuing on with their journey to you. Everything, everyone, all cargo goes from FSD to MSP before they get on their final destination
plane. That is NWA’s main hub.
We do not sedate the puppies before travel as it is not recommended by our veterinarian & the airlines. Temperatures must also be permissible to be able to ship. OUR #1 CONCERN IS THE SAFTY OF OUR LITTLE ONES!
Most families report that the puppy was made available to them between 15 to 30 minutes from the time the plane arrived. When your puppy arrives, he may be picked up in the cargo pickup area or, if shipped priority VIP, picked up at the priority parcel office of the airport, which is generally in the baggage claim area or ticket counter. The airlines usually require some form of identification before they will release the puppy to the new owner. After you pick up your puppy and have returned home, we would ask that you call or email us to let us know how the puppy is doing.
You will also need to take your puppy to your veterinarian within 24 hours for our replacement guarantee to come into effect if necessary. In all our years this has never been necessary.
All puppies must be a minimum of 8 weeks old to fly. We prefer to ship the week of or after if we can not ship on that day. We only ship one day a week which can vary with the airline schedule & our schedule. We do try to work around your schedule but again, the comfort of the pup and the airline schedule is the main concern.
We make all the shipping arrangements. We search for the shortest available flight. We try to make the arrangements 9 days in advance, if possible. We will email the flight arrival information (airline, day of shipment, flight number, air bill number and time of arrival) as soon as they have been confirmed to us by the airline. Shipping is paid to us before we ship, Normally due at 7 weeks of age on the pup.
Flight time, day (if temps do not permit) and numbers are subject to change without notice. We email you the morning of shipping after the puppy has been checked in, if any changes are noted, we will let you know in this email.
Puppies shipped through airlines can be insured by the airline for an additional charge, which is minimal. We suggest insuring your puppy for the value of the puppy. If you want insurance on your puppy, let us know as that has to be done before the puppy is placed on the airplane. We, as the breeder, do not guarantee the puppy's safe arrival since we do not control the airline or events while in their care.
This is a fee of $1.75 per hundred for insurance or $10.50 for $600 coverage.
The cost of the trip does not vary normally in the lower 48 states as long as we use
NWA to ship into that airport. The Transport fee is $300.00 (for a single pup & crate
under 10#). An additional pup can be shipping in the same crate for an additional
$100.00. That fee includes tax, Airline ticket, certificate to fly, certificate of
acclimation and the carrier that the puppy is shipped in. Priority or VIP shipping is $150.00 more added to the original shipping cost. Extreme Temperature shipping is also available for $350 to $500 depending on time of year, size of crate and pup. ALL Above noted fees are subject to change.
